Women in Politics: Lives and Aspirations

A visual document linked to political action and the democratic exercise of women in Mali was produced within the framework of PAREFH3 (2009-2012). This program, financed by Luxembourg Cooperation is implemented by UNDP / Mali. Its overall objective is to contribute to the reduction of disparities between men and women at the economic, political, legal and social levels. • Specifically, PAREHF 3 aims to:

  • Strengthen the economic base of women in order to promote their empowerment, particularly in the regions of Ségou and Sikasso;
  • Strengthen the capacities of women for the full enjoyment of all their political, legal and civic rights;
  • Ensure the integration of gender in development policies and programs in all sectors.

This document is intended to serve as a training, information and advocacy tool aimed in particular at women interested in political engagement but also at various decision-making bodies in the country, regions and cities as well as political parties.

The film was officially launched on March 8, 2012, by the Minister for the Promotion of Women, Children and the Family on the occasion of the celebration of Women’s Day in Mali National Park during the round table which itself will be filmed.
It features women leaders from Mali from different economic, political and cultural sectors. Each of these women responsible in the political, economic and cultural world told her story and her recipes for success.
The film highlights the success of these women politicians in serving as examples and sources of inspiration for other women. During its presentation. It was commented on by specialists, academics, activists and elected officials, from various backgrounds who provided the necessary reflection in order to fuel reflections and actions on the issues of political news and upcoming elections.
